2005 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon | 750 ML | $500.00 | (94-97) Points! Robert Parker's Wine Advocate # 174 Dec 2007 Reviewer: Robert Parker. The 2005 Scarecrow (still in barrel) is a bold wine but, again, the quintessential elegance that seems to be a characteristic of this site is well-displayed. The wine has notes of crushed rock, creme de cassis, cedar wood as well as some licorice and tobacco leaf. This is a beautiful wine of superb purity, depth, and broad, concentrated flavors that are full-bodied but in seamless harmony. This Scarecrow should evolve for 25-30 years. Winemaker Celia Masyczek has again crafted some beautiful wines from this Rutherford vineyard for proprietor Bret Lopez, grandson of J. J. Cohn, who originally planted 80 acres of Cabernet in Rutherford and had a prominent role in the making of the movie "The Wizard of Oz," to which, of course, the label pays homage. The vines for this wine are 62 years old, which makes them incredibly old by Napa standards, and the production was relatively small in 2004 (only 330 cases) and in 2005 (400 cases).
